Jonas Christoffersen has an exceptionally broad business background and is one of Denmark’s leading human rights specialists. His areas of expertise are wide ranging, not least because human rights are now relevant in almost all parts of the community, just as human rights have a legal complexity. Jonas Christoffersen’s previous work as both researcher and executive director provide him special insight and a professional background that no other attorney in Denmark possesses.

Jonas Christoffersen has appeared in both the High Court and the Supreme Court, just as he has participated in proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights. As Director of the Danish Institute for Human Rights for eleven years, he has advised the government, Parliament, public authorities and companies on all forms of legal issues that intersect with human rights. As Director, Jonas Christoffersen has assumed academic responsibility for countless reports, analyses, studies and consultation responses on human rights both in Denmark and abroad. He also has in-depth knowledge of Greenland as well as an involvement with human rights work in a number of other countries.

Before Jonas Christoffersen became Director of the Institute for Human Rights, he was a researcher at the University of Copenhagen and wrote a recognised doctoral dissertation on the Court of Human Rights.

In addition, Jonas Christoffersen has also worked as a clerk in the Supreme Court and has been temporarily appointed as a judge in the Eastern High Court. He received his attorney’s licence and was admitted to the High Court while with Gorrissen Federspiel Law firm.

Jonas Christoffersen was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog in 2018 and in 2019 received the Hartmann Prize for his work in promoting human rights and the rule of law in Denmark. He is a member of the Council on Data Ethics as well as the Danish Football Association’s Ethical Committee.
