AdvokatWatch: Dommer i Højesteret får nystiftet pris som årets voldgiftsdommer

På Copenhagen Arbitation Day i Odd Felow Palæet fik højesteretsdommer Julie Arnt Jørgensen under overværelse af mere end 200 deltagere fra det danske og internationale voldgiftsmiljø tildelte den nystiftede pris som Arbitrator of the Year.

Opgaven med at finde Arbitrator of the Year er overladt til en komité med medlemmer udpeget af Voldgiftsinstituttet, Voldgiftsforeningen, Young Arbirators Copenhagen og ICC Danmark. Advokat René Offersen er formand for komitéen.

Begrundelsen lyder:

The Supreme Court Justice Julie Arnth Jørgensen, at under 50 years old, has already made a name as a highly regarded and highly sought after arbitrator, in both Danish and international arbitration.

As an arbitrator, Julie Arnth Jørgensen, has demonstrated a profound understanding of the arbitral process, including how to make use of arbitration’s flexibility to resolve even the most difficult and complex cases in an efficient and effective manner. At the same time, she is acutely aware of the distinctions between the role of arbitrator and her duties at the Supreme Court.

Julie Arnth Jørgensen belongs to a generation that engaged with arbitration at an early age – for her, this began with a focus on arbitration at the University of Copenhagen and at New York University’s School of Law, leading to appointments as an arbitrator already in her thirties.

Julie Arnt Jørgensens distinguished career as a Supreme Court Justice and arbitrator has in no way diminished her directness, approachability, or her infectious enthusiasm for advancing the arbitration community in Denmark.

Among Julie Arnt Jørgensens contributions to the development of the arbitration community, are her involvement in drafting the first Danish rules on the taking of evidence, specifically tailored to arbitration, her role as co-founder of Young Arbitrators Copenhagen, her board membership of the Danish Arbitration Association, her contributions to Copenhagen Arbitration Days, and, most recently her engagement in the Behind The Scenes network for young arbitration talents.

Of particular importance is Julie Arnth Jørgensen’s exemplary work in promoting diversity in arbitration, notably through her consistent emphasis that women can help other women move forward. “Look under the table!” was her memorable reply in a panel debate – a reminder that talented female arbitrators are undeniably present.

Most recently, Julie Arnth Jørgensen has contributed an essay on women in arbitration for the Danish Institute of Arbitration’s jubilee volume in honour of the Danish Arbitration Act, just published.
